Shoutout to the cashier at Safeway who showed me the store brand trick
I was buying pasta and sauce last month, $12 total, and she just casually pointed to the store brand next to mine. Same ingredients, half the price. Been saving $40 a month on groceries since, has anyone else gotten a random money saving tip from a stranger that actually worked?

$40 a month sounds like a lot, but I gotta ask - how much pasta and sauce are you really eating? I mean, even if it's all from scratch you'd be making a whole lot of spaghetti to save that kind of cash. It's a solid tip for sure, nobody's arguing about store brands being cheaper. But I see people on here acting like they just unlocked some secret to life, and it's just buying cheaper noodles. You're not gonna retire early from swapping out Barilla for the Safeway brand. Sometimes a deal is just a deal, not a life hack.

That $40 a month adds up crazy fast. The real underrated part of that tip is how it works for almost everything in the store, like spices and canned goods are usually identical too.

Oh man, @hayden587 you're so right about the spices. I had a similar thing happen at the deli counter of all places (not Safeway, but a local chain). The guy behind the meat counter told me to skip the pre-seasoned chicken packs and just buy the plain breasts plus my own seasoning mix. Saved like $3 a pound, and honestly my homemade rub tastes way better. Also, I started checking the bottom shelf at stores for the store brand stuff after that, it's wild how much they hide the cheaper options down there.
