Warning: I was doing my grocery budget all wrong for years

I used to just buy whatever looked good at the store and hope it fit my $400 monthly limit. Then last June I noticed I kept hitting $500 every time and had nothing to show for it. My neighbor Jan called me out when she saw my cart full of pre-cut veggies and snack packs. She told me to start shopping at Aldi in Greenville and actually plan meals around the weekly flyer. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized your 'budget' was just a wish?

The "just a wish" part hit me hard because I used to think I was good at budgeting too. After I actually started planning around sales, it felt like I finally understood what I was doing wrong.

Got a friend who was convinced she was a budget pro until she realized she was just "planning" around her paychecks hitting, not actual sales. She ended up buying a month of groceries at full price right before a big store sale and almost cried in the aisle. Now she checks the weekly ads like it's her job.
