My cousin told me to ditch the index and use a yearly log instead
She's been bullet journaling since 2016 so I figured she knew her stuff. I tried it for about 4 months and I kept losing track of old entries. Like I'd know I wrote about a doctor appointment in March but couldn't find it without flipping through every single page. Last week I went back to a proper index and a two page monthly spread and I found stuff in 10 seconds. Has anyone else tried going without an index and regretted it later?

Oh man, that's exactly the kind of thing that drove me crazy! Did you ever try doing a quick thread index on a single page where you'd just write "March - doctor visit" as you went along? I kept thinking "oh I'll remember where I put that" and then nope, totally wrong.

Not me but a buddy of mine tried that thread index idea you mentioned. He said it worked great for about two weeks until he lost the page he was writing them on. Then he spent a whole weekend trying to figure out what "corner of the garage" meant from six months ago. Turns out it was the spot where he'd left his old welding mask, but he'd already thrown that out in a spring cleaning. He told me he's back to just writing stuff on sticky notes now, which honestly sounds about as chaotic as my system.
