Stop color-coding your whole month before you actually use it

I spent my first 3 months in this hobby making gorgeous full-bleed monthly spreads with 8 colored pens, then never touched half of them because life didn't fit my pretty boxes. Now I do a plain line for the month and add color only to days that actually end up with appointments or deadlines, saved me about 20 minutes every Sunday and my spreads finally work for me instead of the other way around. Anyone else ditch the big fancy layout for a simpler one after realizing it was just decoration?

Buddy of mine spent two hours hand-drawing a tiny dragon in the corner of every weekly spread. First week he got called into a double shift and never opened the notebook again. Next month he just wrote the dates in pencil and one blue pen for deadlines. Still refuses to admit the dragon was a waste, but he stopped drawing them.

Felt that hard, pretty spreads are such a trap until you just need the damn date.
