A librarian in Kiev handed me a folder of old newspapers and I finally got why stories vanish
I was doing a school project on the Chernobyl cover up and a librarian named Oksana pulled out a 1986 copy of Pravda that ran a tiny paragraph about a small accident at a power plant near Kiev. That paragraph was 3 sentences and buried on page 4. Same week, a bigger story ran about a tractor factory quota. She said the trick was never to ban the news, just to make it boring and put it where no one looks. I still think about that folder every time I see a headline get pulled quietly with no notice. Anyone else have a moment where a small thing showed you how big a buried story can be?
