Serious question, the loss at my warehouse in Toledo finally made me fix our whole supply chain
Two months ago our main supplier in Toledo shipped us 400 wrong size boxes and we lost a $6,000 order because nobody checked the delivery before signing. I was standing in the loading dock watching the crew try to repack everything by hand at 5pm on a Friday, and that's when it hit me. We had no process for checking shipments, no backup vendor, and no clue how much this was actually costing us every month. Now we do a 10 point check before anyone signs anything and I keep a second supplier on standby. Has anyone else had a dumb mistake like this force them to finally get their act together?
The 10 point check is solid but the hard part is usually getting the crew to actually do it every single time, not just the first couple weeks after something blows up. Sounds like Toledo was the supplier though, not your warehouse, since that's where the boxes came from. Either way the backup vendor move is what really saves you next time.
