That $40 time tracker app saved my crew 6 hours this month

I finally got sick of my guys texting me their hours and me trying to piece together which job ate up the afternoon. So last month I made everyone test out a cheap mobile time tracker, nothing fancy, just start and stop buttons per project. The first week was rough, two guys kept forgetting to punch out, but by week two it was just habit. Turns out we were spending way too long on one recurring client's punch list items, about 4 extra hours a week, because the foreman kept redoing details without logging it. I raised that client's rate at renewal because the data was right there in black and white. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has swapped paper timesheets for an app and found a similar surprise in the numbers.

God yes, we had the exact same thing happen... I was shocked when I finally saw the numbers from our app. I thought we were being fair with our billing but it turned out we were giving away like 15 percent of our time on a big customer's little fix-it requests. The guys would knock them out between jobs and nobody ever wrote them down, so we never charged for that time. Now I make them start the timer even for a five minute phone call with that client, and we found we could raise our rates without the customer even blinking. It's wild how blind you are until you actually see the breakdown... I can't go back to paper now.
