Vent: My inventory spreadsheet broke and I lost a whole morning fixing it

I was sitting at my desk in the office last Tuesday when my Excel file for tracking pest control chemicals just locked up. I had about 200 entries for things like glue boards and bait stations, and the formulas all went haywire because of a bad cell reference I didn't catch. Took me from 8am until almost noon to rebuild it from a backup from 3 weeks ago. Has anyone else had a spreadsheet glitch that totally derailed their day for no good reason?

Back up your sheets on a flash drive every Friday. Saved my bacon twice.

Wait do you actually keep a flash drive plugged into your computer the whole time or do you just plug it in every Friday? I've heard that keeping them plugged in all the time can corrupt the files or wear out the drive faster but maybe that's an old school worry. Also do you store the flash drive in a fire safe or something? Because I feel like if your computer gets fried by a power surge the flash drive sitting right next to it is gonna be toast too.
