Picked up a clever clamping idea from a shop visit yesterday

The owner used spring clamps to hold small parts during glue-up. It saved me a ton of hassle on my current build.

Spring clamps can slip on small parts during glue-up (seen it myself).

Ask what glue and surface finish you were using when it happened. Some clamps just have weak spring pressure, or maybe the parts were too slick. Wonder if certain brands handle small pieces better than others.
