Rant: soft-close hinges vs standard on a 42-unit build in Reno

I had to pick between soft-close and standard hinges for this whole condo job, and I went with soft-close because the GC swore it would help sell the units. 11 doors in and the pistons are already acting up on two of them, squeaking like crazy. I told him we should've stuck with the standard Blum clips, but he said 'premium sells.' Has anyone else had soft-close hinges fail this early, or did I just get a bad batch from the supplier?
