that $50 kreg jig I almost returned saved my butt on this kitchen job

I was putting together some face frames for a kitchen remodel in Austin and my dado stack was leaving tearout like crazy on the poplar. I was about to just hand cut everything til my buddy said try the pocket holes and hide em on the backside. Set up my Kreg K5, drilled 15 joints in like 20 minutes, and clamped em up with gorilla glue and it came out dead flat. Has anyone else found a way to get cleaner results than the chunky 1.5 inch screws they sell though?
