Guy brought in a camera full of sand from a wedding shoot gone wrong

Last month this dude walks into my shop in Austin with a Nikon D850 that sounded like a maraca. Turns out he was shooting a beach wedding near Port Aransas and a gust of wind blasted sand right into the lens mount. He tried blowing it out with his mouth - big mistake, just packed it deeper. I spent 3 hours taking that thing apart piece by piece, finding sand in every little crevice. Has anyone else dealt with beach damage like that, or was this just a special kind of crazy?

That's a textbook example of why you bring a cheap backup body to the beach. Mouth blowing just made things way worse. Sand is basically tiny glass shards for your gear.

And "cheap backup body" is the key, sand is just brutal on everything with moving parts.
