Hit 500 shutter repairs last month and that's when I started finding the same broken part
I crossed 500 shutter fixes in my shop last month and suddenly started noticing the same tiny gear stripped in almost every camera from 2018-2021. Has anyone else seen that plastic drive gear fail like clockwork around 50k actuations?

Hit 500 shutter fixes" - man, that is some serious mileage right there. I gotta say, that bums me out to hear about the same plastic gear failing around 50k clicks. It makes you wonder if those cameras were just designed to not last past that point, you know? Like, they knew the part would give out but put it in anyway. I've definitely seen similar stuff with other gear where a cheap plastic part brings down the whole system, and it's a real shame for anyone trying to get good use out of their camera. Hope you're charging people fairly for that fix, because that sounds like a pain to keep running into.

Oh come on, "designed to not last past that point" sounds a bit dramatic, doesn't it? Plastic gears wear out yeah, but 50k clicks is actually pretty decent for a consumer camera, especially with how many people shoot on burst mode these days. I bet if you looked at the repair logs from the 90s you'd find similar failure points, it's just cheaper parts, not some conspiracy to make you buy a new body.
