Appreciation post: that muddy night at Black Mountain Campground made me ditch my fancy tent stove forever

After 3 hours of fighting with a wet wood stove in the rain at Black Mountain last October, I finally packed it up and went back to a simple alcohol stove and haven't looked back since - has anyone else had their whole gear philosophy flipped by a single bad trip?

Oh man, "fancy tent stove" just sounds like a recipe for regret at this point. I mean, I had a similar moment with a fancy camp oven that I swore was the answer to everything, until I burned two dinners and a pair of socks trying to get it lit in the wind. Idk, maybe it's just me but sometimes the simple stuff wins by not making you want to throw your whole setup into a river. Honestly, that muddy night might have saved you from a lifetime of fussing with wet twigs and broken zippers.

@sarahh48 Did the camp oven at least come with a warning label about wind?
