One Reddit comment about my sleeping pad totally fixed my setup

I've used my old self-inflating pad for 4 seasons and always woke up sore. Someone on a trail forum pointed out it was probably undersized for my frame, since I'm 6'2" and it was a 20-by-72 inch model. I tested their tip by adding a cheap 1/4 inch foam pad underneath, and the difference was huge. Now I bring both pads even if it adds a pound to my pack, but my back thanks me after a full night on the granite up near Bishop. Anyone else find that layering pads beats buying one expensive one?

Ha, so the fix was just turning your bed into a sandwich of cheap foam and regret-free mornings.

Thirty bucks at a foam shop fixed my hip pain that a $900 mattress never touched. Maybe cheap isn't the insult when it means I actually sleep through the night now. I'll take the sandwich if it works.
