Had to pick between reporting a professor or letting it slide

Last semester at State College I had a poli sci prof who kept shutting down any student who brought up conservative viewpoints during class discussions. It happened like 4 times before I finally had to decide whether to file a formal complaint with the dean or just brush it off. I went ahead and reported it because I figured if nobody says anything this stuff just keeps happening. The dean actually took it serious and the prof got a warning after an investigation found evidence from other students too. Has anyone else dealt with a professor who clearly picks sides in class discussions and did reporting actually help?

Hearing they found evidence from other students too is wild, lol. That sort of silence from the rest of the class probably would have let it slide if you didn't step up.

yeah I saw a post on r/teachers about this exact kind of thing, where the whole class just clams up and the one kid who speaks up gets treated like a snitch. it's crazy how quick people forget that if nobody says anything the cheater just gets away with it and then they do it again next test. I swear I remember reading a study somewhere that said when one person cheats and gets away with it in a class, the cheating rate goes up like 30% for the rest of the year. so you stepping up probably saved a lot of people from thinking they could just copy off each other and never get caught.
