My speech event got cancelled because 3 people complained

Last semester at University of Texas, I booked a speaker to talk about immigration reform. The admin pulled the permit 2 days before because 3 student groups filed complaints saying the topic was offensive. I went to the dean and argued that blocking it violated our free speech policy, and after a week of back and forth, they let us reschedule but moved it to a tiny room at 8 PM. Has anyone else had their event venues downgraded like that?

Sucks that they punished you instead of the complainers. Solidarity.

I mean, "solidarity" is nice and all, but maybe they actually did break a rule and deserved the warning lol. Sometimes staff has to pick a side and the "complainers" were just reporting a legit issue.
