Got chewed out by a mod for saying 'actually' in a debate thread
I was in a subreddit about video game lore and someone said a character died in 1999. I knew it was 2003 so I typed 'actually it was 2003' and a mod gave me a 3 day ban for 'tone policing.' I was pretty mad at first but looking back, starting with 'actually' does sound kind of smug. Has anyone else had to change how they word stuff just to keep the peace online?

Three days for one word though... that seems a bit much. I get that "actually" can come across as snooty but a full on ban feels like overkill. Unless you were already on thin ice with that mod or something. I've been in arguments where people said way worse stuff and just got a warning. It's the internet, people should have thicker skin.

is it even that deep though? like yeah "actually" can sound a bit condescending but banning someone for 3 days over it is straight up ridiculous. mods on some forums just love power tripping i swear. bet if you had said something actually offensive they'd just give you a warning and move on. feels like they were looking for any excuse to hit that ban button. most people wouldn't even bat an eye at that word in a normal convo. honestly just appeal it and move on, not worth stressing over.
