Had to bite my tongue at a family dinner last week about my cousin's 'miracle' detox tea

My cousin in Phoenix started selling this herbal tea that she claims flushes out 'toxins' from your liver. I looked up the ingredients and it's basically laxatives with a fancy label. She was going on about how doctors don't want you to know about it, and I wanted to say the FDA sent a warning letter to that company 6 months ago. But my aunt gave me the look, so I just sat there nodding. Has anyone else had to stay quiet when a relative falls for a health scam?

The part about "doctors don't want you to know" always gets me. Like yeah, doctors definitely have time to plot against a pyramid scheme tea when they're dealing with actual medical issues. I had to sit through my aunt explaining how alkaline water cures cancer last summer. Just smiled and said "interesting" while thinking about how she also fell for that magnet bracelet thing a few years back. Its rough because if you say anything they act like youre part of the conspiracy against their magic product.

Oh man, @ryan719, you nailed it. My mom was all about those copper bracelets for arthritis a while back. I just did the same thing, nodded along and said "huh, interesting." You can't argue without them thinking you're working for Big Pharma or something.
