TIL my homeowners insurance doesn't cover damage from tree roots growing into pipes

I found this out when I had to pay $4,200 out of pocket last month after my sewer line backed up in Des Moines. My neighbor mentioned it while we were both out digging in our yards. I always figured 'home insurance' covered everything under the slab. Now I'm looking into a separate rider for utility lines. Anyone else get blindsided by a specific exclusion like this?

Oh man, my other neighbor's pipes burst the same week. Total coincidence.
