My first boss told me 'never rely on one client' and I brushed it off for 3 years

Back in 2019 I had one client paying 80% of my freelance income. When they cut their budget overnight I was scrambling for 6 months to replace that loss. Has anyone else had a wake-up call like that where you ignored obvious advice?

was it really that bad" - yeah, honestly it was. Six months of panic and dipping into savings felt like forever when you're watching your bank account shrink and can't find new work fast enough. It's not just about surviving the six months, it's the stress of not knowing if you'll even make it that long. The scramble also hurts your reputation because you start taking any job, even ones you're not great at, just to pay bills. So yeah, it was bad enough that I wish I'd listened to my boss three years earlier instead of learning it the hard way.

Was it really that bad though? Seems like a lesson you can only learn by failing, and six months isn't forever.
