Thought networking events were a total waste until one changed my career path

I dragged myself to a local tech meetup in Cleveland last month expecting the usual awkward small talk. Then a senior dev I'd never heard of dropped a tip about a niche certification that landed me a $15k raise within 3 weeks. Has anyone else had a random conversation completely shift their earning potential?

Used to roll my eyes at these things but yeah, you're right, one good tip can change everything.

I mean, is it really life changing though? @smith.jordan, I've seen people get hyped over a recipe tweak or folding socks a certain way, then forget about it a week later. Sure, a good tip can save time or make things a little easier, but calling it "everything" feels like a stretch (unless it's how to get ketchup out of a shirt without staining, that one actually saved my favorite jeans).

Oh man, I totally feel you on this one. @the_uma has a point about hype dying down, but for me it was learning how to actually season a cast iron pan. I was about to throw mine out and bam, one tip from a random forum and now it's my favorite thing to cook with. It's not just about socks or ketchup, but those little wins stack up over time. So yeah, I get the eye roll thing, but when a tip actually works it feels like a secret superpower.
