My $40 chalk line cost more than the $12 one, but now I get it

I used to think spending extra on a chalk line was a waste. Had the same basic $12 Stanley for like 8 years and it worked fine, so why bother. Then last month I grabbed a Tajima at the supply house in Portland because my old one finally snapped the string mid-layout on a deck job. The difference in how clean the line snaps and how it holds on rough cedar is night and day. I re-did a scribe mark three times with the old one and the new one got it first try. Any of you guys swear by a certain chalk brand or line, or am I just late to this party?

The Tajima is a game changer for sure, but the real trick is keeping the chalk dry. Once that stuff clumps up, even the expensive lines start skipping on you, so I toss a couple of those little silica packs in my box with it. You're not late, just took you a few years longer than the rest of us.
