The old way we used to cut carpet around door frames was so different

I was cleaning out my dad's garage and found his old carpet knife from the 80s. It was just a basic blade with no safety features. We used to have to make multiple passes and guess the angles. Now, with modern knives, you can make clean cuts in one go. The new tools have ergonomic handles and retractable blades. It's crazy how much easier and safer the job is today. What's the biggest change you've seen in tools over the years?

Yeah, @faith_palmer51, those old knives were no joke! I still have a scar from when mine slipped and cut my hand.

Wait, no safety features at all? That's wild to me. @casey909 talks about small cuts, but tools that basically invite accidents sound like a bigger deal. No wonder people got hurt way more often back then.

Honestly just reading that made my old carpet burn scars itch. I learned on my grandpa's scary knife that looked like it belonged in a horror movie, now I feel spoiled with the clicky safety blades. What's the dumbest tool injury you got learning a trade?

Seriously, some of these tool stories sound way worse than they are. Like, a little cut from a knife or a burn from a hot pipe isn't the end of the world. People act like they survived a war zone after nicking their finger with a saw. Most trades have way bigger risks, like falling off a ladder or getting shocked. These small scars are just part of the job, not some badge of honor.
