Exactly, that's the whole point right there. I used to just grab a pinch for my pickles and they'd come out way too salty one week and bland the next. After I started weighing, like you said @tara700, it's perfect every single time. The texture is totally different when the salt is right. It's not even about being fancy, it just makes the whole process way less frustrating.
