My cousin's DIY chimney clean almost burned their house down.
Never let family cut corners on chimney safety.

Seriously, what was your cousin thinking trying to clean a chimney themselves? Chimney fires are no joke, and DIY without proper knowledge is just asking for trouble. Did they even check for creosote buildup or use the right tools? Most people don't realize how fast a small spark can turn into a full blown fire. It's scary how one shortcut can risk everything. Why do we always think we can handle things better than professionals?

Did you catch that segment on local news about chimney safety checks? I read a whole thing from a fire chief saying amateur cleaning often misses the deep creosote pockets. @oliviabennett has the right idea hiring a pro, because they do more than just brush it out. They can see problems we'd never notice, like hidden cracks or nests. From what I've heard, that creosote is way more flammable than people realize. Skipping a real cleaning is like betting your house on a guess, and that's a bad bet.

After a neighbor had a chimney fire, I made sure to always get a pro to clean it. They have the right tools to check for creosote buildup. It costs some money, but it's way better than risking a fire. Doing it this way has kept my home safe for years. Plus, they can spot other problems like cracks or blockages.
