Spent 6 hours yesterday chasing a draft in a flue that just needed a $5 gasket

Pulled the liner three times checking for cracks before I noticed the old gasket had crumbled into dust. Anyone else ever overlook the simplest fix and waste half a day on it?

Spent a whole afternoon once replacing a perfectly good thermostat on a boiler because it kept cutting out. Three hours in I realized there was a dead spider shorting the contacts. Felt like the biggest idiot in the world. At least your fix cost a fiver, I dropped sixty bucks on a part I didn't need and still had to clean out the spider guts. We all have those days where our brains just skip the obvious and go straight for the complicated.

Classic move, skip the easy stuff and straight to panic mode.
