Warning: Bought a cheap wire brush and regretted it on a job in Denver

I picked up a $5 wire brush from a big box store last month to clean a flue liner, and the bristles started flying off after 10 minutes. One got stuck in my glove and I had to pull it out with pliers, plus the rust left streaks all over the masonry. Has anyone else had junk tools cost them more time than they saved?

That $5 brush sounds like the same kind I grabbed from a hardware store in Phoenix last summer. The handle snapped clean off after maybe 15 minutes on a brick wall, and I spent the next hour picking wire bits out of my arm. It's funny how we think we're saving money but end up wasting way more time fixing the mess. I've noticed this pattern with a lot of cheap tools and even everyday stuff like those discount garbage bags that split open as soon as you lift them. You end up double bagging everything or cleaning up a bigger mess, so what was the point? Sometimes paying a little more upfront actually saves you from all that hassle later on.

Cheap tools and cheap groceries both end up costing you twice in the end.
