Had a client in Chengdu tell me my quote was 'too foreign' to trust

He said he'd only hire a local crew because they 'understand the soil', even though my team is all from here. Has anyone else run into this kind of weird gatekeeping?

Oh man, that's frustrating. I got hit with that same "local soil" line on a project in Hangzhou last year. What finally worked for me was bringing a local partner, not just a crew, into the bid to handle client relations. It cost a bit of my margin, but it got the job. That "local premium" @casey909 mentioned is real, and sometimes you just have to build it into your plan to get past the gate.

My uncle in Shanghai said his firm calls it the "local premium" for contracts.
