PSA: I thought those crazy long Chinese train rides would be a nightmare, then I did Beijing to Xi'an
I always figured a 4 and a half hour high speed train in China would be cramped and miserable, so I kept booking flights between cities on my last trip. Last week I finally tried the G-train from Beijing West to Xi'an and it was cleaner and smoother than any flight I've taken in the US, with a food cart and plenty of legroom in second class. The thing that got me was the stations, Beijing West was packed but everyone queued in neat lines and we rolled out exactly on time, not a minute late. Now I'm planning a Chengdu to Chongqing run just for fun. Anyone got a favorite stretch of the high speed network I should hit next?
Wait, people actually queue in neat lines there? That blows my mind because Beijing West sounds like it should be total chaos with that many travelers. And rolling out exactly on time, not a minute late, is something I've never once seen at an airport. That alone makes me want to ditch flights for good.
