My heat pump gave up the ghost during that cold snap last week
The unit is only 8 years old, but the compressor failed. Had to run space heaters for three days, which felt like a huge step backwards. Anyone have a good installer in the Portland area who doesn't push for a full gas furnace backup system?

Is a compressor failure really that big of a deal on an 8 year old unit? I feel like they should last longer, but maybe it was just a fluke or a bad brand. Running space heaters for a few days is annoying, but it's not the end of the world. People used to do that all the time before heat pumps were common.
