Tested a rain barrel setup in Portland and my water bill dropped 40%
Last month I finally hooked up two 50-gallon rain barrels off my downspout in southeast Portland. It took about 3 hours with some PVC pipe and a simple diverter kit I got at the local hardware store. The first big storm filled both barrels in under an hour, which surprised me more than I expected. I used that stored water for my garden beds and washing the car, and my June water bill came in 40 bucks lower than this time last year. Has anyone else tried connecting multiple barrels or a drip line system to make the water go further?
How many gallons are you actually going through in a dry week between the garden and the car? Trying to figure out if two barrels is enough or if you're already wishing you had a third.
