Got told to slow down my rapids on a new job in Denver

Old timer at the shop said I was pushing the feed too hard on a stainless part and it would wreck my inserts in under 50 cycles. Sure enough at 47 parts my carbide insert chipped and I had to redo the whole run. Anyone else ever brush off advice from the graybeards and pay for it?

Tried the same thing with a 304 job in Phoenix, chipped at 32 parts and felt like a total fool.

Bet it just hit the limit of what that insert could take.
