Spindle warmup habits I saw at a job shop in Ohio

Visited a job shop outside Cleveland last Thursday and watched a guy skip spindle warmup on a 20 degree morning, then he was surprised when his part came out .003 off, has anyone else seen shops treat warmup routines like theyre optional?

My old shop in Dayton had a 1972 Bridgeport that needed 15 minutes before it held tolerance.
