TIL flying with my measuring tools got them held back at airport check
Brought my dial indicator to a training seminar across state. Now I have to borrow gear and it's throwing off my whole groove.

My Tenths Mitutoyo calipers go in checked luggage every time now. Never had an issue once I stopped carrying them on.

Airport security keeps flagging the weirdest stuff as suspicious. My cousin had his small woodworking chisels taken once, and a friend lost a precision level because it had liquid in the vial. Systems built for common threats just don't get specialized tools. It makes you wonder what common item they'll misinterpret next, doesn't it?

Honestly I used to think they were just being too careful, but that story about the level's liquid vial actually makes sense now. Tbh I'm gonna check my own bag for weird stuff before my next flight.
