A guy in line at Micro Center asked why I still use a for loop, and now I can't decide if he was right
I was at Micro Center in Chicago two Saturdays ago picking up a cheap keyboard, and the guy behind me saw the Python sticker on my laptop and asked why I still write for loops instead of list comprehensions, and I honestly didn't have a good answer. Half of me thinks you should learn the plain loop first because you can see every step, and the other half thinks comprehensions are cleaner and you'll read them in real code anyway, so why not just start there? For people who teach or learn this stuff, do you start beginners on the long version or throw them into the short one?
A guy at Micro Center giving unsolicited code advice is peak Micro Center, honestly. I'd push back the other way though: start beginners on the plain loop because a comprehension hides the accumulator and the condition, and it's way harder to debug when you can't see each step.
