Unpopular opinion: Coding a light timer for my porch was the best beginner project ever
It made me learn loops and conditions in a real way (way better than any tutorial, honestly). Now my lights turn on at dusk automatically, which is super handy.

That "way better than any tutorial" part is so true, I heard a podcast say the same thing about hardware projects.

Caught that podcast episode, @pat_hall23. Watching someone work on hardware is indeed a great way to learn. But tutorials can be a real help when you need to see a specific step repeated. They fill in the gaps when you don't have a person right there to ask. So using both watching and tutorials often gives the best results.
