A barista in Seattle told me to rinse my mug with hot water first

I was getting a pour-over at a small shop near Pike Place, and she said it keeps the coffee hotter for longer (like, a full minute more). Does anyone else do this little warm-up step?

Tried that after a barista in Portland gave me the same tip. Honestly, it makes a huge difference, especially with ceramic mugs. My coffee stays hot for the whole time I'm drinking it now.

My old diner mug from a truck stop in Nebraska holds heat better than any fancy ceramic I've ever used. It's just thick porcelain and the coffee is still warm when I'm done with my second refill. I've tried the pre-heating trick and it only adds maybe two minutes of extra heat for me. The material and thickness of the mug itself seems way more important than warming it up first. I get better results just using a simple insulated travel mug if I really want it to last.

My thickest mug is from a gas station and it's a beast.
