The snob at my local cafe ruined my morning pour-over
I was at Brew Haus in Portland last Saturday getting my usual V60 and this guy in a tweed jacket starts lecturing me about my bean choice like I'm a child. He said my Ethiopian Yirgacheffe was "too acidic for that grind size" and walked off smugly. Why do some coffee enthusiasts have to make everything a competition instead of just letting people drink what they like?

Ignore that guy completely. Next time just nod and say "cool story bro" and go back to your coffee. Been there with the same kind of snobs at my local shop. Honestly, if you like the Yirgacheffe with that grind, youre doing it right. The whole point of pour-over is dialing it in for your taste buds. If it tastes good to you, screw the grind size lecture. Just enjoy your damn coffee.

My buddy Jake got roasted at this third wave spot in Portland for using a blade grinder on some Ethiopian beans. The barista gave him this whole spiel about uniformity and fines and he just stood there nodding and sipping his coffee. When the guy finally took a breath, Jake goes "cool story bro" and walked out with his pour-over. He still uses that blade grinder three years later and honestly his coffee tastes fine to me. Gatekeeping grind size is just a way for people to feel superior (it happens in every hobby, not just coffee).
