Paying $75 to hear a canceled speaker actually taught me something

I bought a ticket to see a guy who got disinvited from three colleges, and the off-campus venue charged $75. Hearing him answer hecklers in person made me realize the ban was more about protecting students from discomfort than real danger, and I've flip-flopped on whether alumni should fund these events. Has anyone else paid for a talk after the campus drama and come away with a different take?

$75 is a lot of money just to watch someone talk, especially when the whole fuss was probably about a few offended people on campus. Most of these speaker bans blow up on social media for a week and then everybody forgets about it next semester. Seems like you paid a premium to feel like you were part of some bigger story that really wasn't that big at all.
