PSA: that 'rare' Spider-Man #1 variant you saw at a con is probably a reprint

Bought what I thought was a legit Miles Morales first appearance variant at a shop in Austin for $120. Got home and checked the paper quality under a light - thin and glossy instead of the matte newsprint. Learn to check the date codes on the inside cover before you pull out your wallet.

Man that sucks, sorry to hear it. It's wild how this happens everywhere now, not just with comics. I've been noticing the same thing with vintage video games at flea markets - people slap a new label on a common cart and try to pass it off as a rare pressing. Same deal with old concert t-shirts at thrift stores, they're almost always bootlegs printed on that cheap shiny fabric. My rule of thumb is if the price feels too good to be true, it usually is.

ngl @sean_park8 that label trick on video games is such a low move. wait, so someone actually printed a whole new label for a common cart and glued it on? that's wild.
