Rant: That guy who told me Deadpool is just a joke character

I was at a comic shop in Philly last month flipping through back issues and this dude next to me starts going on about how Deadpool is nothing but slapstick and fourth wall gags. He said the character has zero depth and only appeals to teenagers who think memes are storytelling. Have you ever had someone dismiss a whole run of a character because they only saw the movie version?

Huh, they probably never read Joe Kelly's original run on the character.

Yeah "probably never read" is a pretty good summary of how most discourse works these days. It's like people form their whole opinion based on a two minute YouTube clip and then act like they're experts. I see the same thing happen with pretty much everything - music, movies, even recipes. Nobody has the patience to actually dig into the source material anymore.
