Unpopular opinion: spending $80 on a graded modern comic is a trap

I bought a 9.8 copy of a 2021 book for $80 thinking it would hold value, but the market flooded and now it's worth maybe $20. Anyone else notice how graded modern stuff is just a gamble?

Graded modern stuff feels like buying lottery tickets from a year ago, you know? Did you check the pop report before you bought it? Curious if that number was already climbing.

My buddy Tom dropped three grand on a Zach Wilson RPA last year, thought he was gonna flip it for a down payment on a house... now it's worth maybe enough for a nice dinner for two, if you skip appetizers. Pop reports are funny things, I looked at a Wander Franco Bowman Chrome the other day and the PSA 10 count was already over 2,000 back in June, before all the legal stuff hit. Nobody pays attention until it's too late, then they're stuck holding the bag while the next shiny thing comes along. I've got a couple of those numbered parallels myself sitting in a box, figured they'd be my retirement plan, now they're just cardboard with a slab around 'em.
