Supervisor's tip about breathing patterns fixed my bottom time issue
Been diving pipeline inspection off the Gulf coast near Corpus Christi for about 4 years now. My air consumption was always worse than my buddy's, and I figured I just had a bigger frame. Last gig, an old supervisor named Ray watched me on a 60 foot run and said I was holding my breath between pulls, not breathing steady. He made me slow everything down and match my exhale to my fin strokes, and I added almost 15 minutes of usable bottom time on a 100 foot job near Port Aransas. Anyone else had a habit they didn't notice until someone pointed it out, and what did it cost you to fix it?
