That moment when a bad SATA cable took me 3 hours to find

I was working on a client's PC last Tuesday in my garage and it kept freezing during file transfers. Swapped the drive, tested the RAM, even ran a full virus scan. Finally I grabbed a different SATA cable from my drawer and boom, problem gone. Has anyone else had a cheap cable cause weird intermittent issues like that?

Did you check if the drive was getting enough power?
