Tried a $40 thermal paste on a 15 year old laptop, what a difference

I was diagnosing a slow office Dell from 2009 and figured the CPU was cooked, but a friend dared me to repaste it with the expensive stuff before trashing it. Dropped from 98C idle to 62C and the whole machine feels snappy again. Anyone else bother reviving ancient gear or do you just quote a new machine upfront?

Did you recheck the heatsink for dust buildup before you slapped that paste on?
