Just had my sump pump die in the middle of a storm last night
Came home to 3 inches of water in the basement. The thing was only 4 years old too. Anyone else have a backup system fail at the worst possible time?

Oh man that's rough, I feel for you. We had something similar happen a few years back, but it was a power outage that killed ours. The thing that ended up working for us was getting a battery backup system that hooks right into the pump. It's not cheap, like a few hundred bucks, but it kicks in when the power goes out and I swear it's saved us at least twice already. Also I learned the hard way to check the float switch every spring, you know, make sure it's not stuck or anything. That little thing gets gunked up so easy. Anyways, hope you get it sorted, that water cleanup is a nightmare.

My neighbor's sump pump failed during a storm and we ended up borrowing a shop vac from three houses down at midnight.
