My old history teacher dropped a fact about the JFK files that caught me off guard
I ran into Mr. Thompson at a coffee shop last weekend, he taught AP US History back in 2010. He told me that the JFK assassination records still being sealed have less to do with national security and more to do with protecting informant networks from the 60s. He pointed me to a specific page in the 1992 JFK Act that lists exemptions for sources still alive at the time. Has anyone else looked into those specific exemption categories, or am I just late to this rabbit hole?

Looked into this a couple years ago and yeah those exemptions are mostly about old informants still being alive.

And the funny thing is, most of those old informants are probably long gone or completely irrelevant at this point. The feds just don't want to deal with the paperwork or risk someone suing them over a sealed case from 1987. So they keep kicking the can down the road and calling it "national security.
