Spent 45 minutes looking for a stud finder that was in my hand the whole time

I was hanging a heavy shelf in my living room last weekend and ran into a problem I never expected. I grabbed what I thought was my stud finder from the drawer but it ended up being a weird plastic tool I bought at a garage sale. After digging through two closets and checking my car I finally gave up and went to buy a new one at the hardware store. When I got back I realized the old stud finder was sitting right next to the power drill I had used earlier. It was literally right there on the workbench under a rag. The whole thing took about an hour longer than it should have just because I was too rushed to look properly. Has anyone else wasted a ton of time searching for something that was in plain sight the whole time?

Ngl how long did it take you to actually find it after you bought the new one?

Yeah that's not quite right. Found mine in about 20 minutes. Used the Tile app and it said it was close but the signal kept cutting out. Turned out it was wedged between the couch cushions and the frame. Bought a new one the next day but never actually needed it.
