Still think the moon landing was faked? Then why did Russia not call us out on it during the Cold War?

I was at a diner in Austin last night and overheard a guy at the next table telling his friend the moon landing was filmed in a studio. He said it was all a hoax to beat the Soviets. That got me thinking. If we faked it, the USSR had spy satellites and listening posts everywhere. They would have known and screamed it from the rooftops to embarrass us. They had every reason to expose a lie. So how do you explain their silence? Either they were in on it too, or the landings were real. Which side makes more sense to you?

That diner guy probably never considered Russia stayed quiet because they were faking their own space achievements too.

Faking their own space achievements too" is actually the least interesting part of this. The real trick would be faking failures to make other people's successes look less impressive.

Interesting thought, but I think there might be another layer to it. Russia's silence could have been a strategic move to keep their own secrets safe while letting others embarrass themselves. The space race was as much about intelligence and counterintelligence as it was about rockets and satellites.
